MONTHLY PROJECT PRESENTATIONS FOR MARCH 2026 WITH DAVID MOORE.
Join the Discord to submit your work. You can join the Patreon to attend Sunday editions of the class at patreon.com/peretsky. Tracks listed below, stream all the project submissions here.
The Monthly Project series allows participants to follow a single compositional prompt as a shared class project. For this month's project we are thrilled to have composer, pianist, and founder of experimental chamber group Bing & Ruth, David Moore.
The compositional prompt reads as follows:
One of the biggest symptoms I have noticed with Gear Acquisition Syndrome is the itch we feel to fill the air with as much sound as we can by stacking all the tools in our arsenal on top of one another. As loop and sequence enthusiasts, we often add layer after layer, perhaps to cope with the vulnerability of hearing ourselves only do one thing at a time.
When was the last time you sat in your studio with one instrument, without external processing or FX devices, and responded to your own definition of silence with this single tool? Do you feel secure enough to strip yourself down sonically to just one thing? Why not?
Every so often we need a break from this stack of gear in our studios and the hundreds of software instruments and effects we have installed on our computers so that we can get back to basics and remind ourselves that we are still musicians with only two hands, two ears, and one brain. And so with this project we will do just that.
For this monthly project, you are to record yourself responding to your own definition of silence for five minutes or less through a single take live performance on a single instrument without overdubs or live fx processing. Acoustic and electronic instruments are both welcome, but you can only pick one. You are welcome to add channel strip fx such as EQ, comp, or other gain stages as a post-production mix, but you cannot add or subtract parts to your single live take.
For this month, we are thrilled to have composer, pianist, and producer David Moore join us for the live critique session of your work. David is the founder of pivotal instrumental ensemble Bing & Ruth, a member of “ambient country” pioneers Cowboy Sadness, and has just released an LP of solo piano music on RVNG Intl. entitled Graze the Bell.

The Monthly Project series allows participants to follow a single compositional prompt as a shared class project. For this month's project we are thrilled to have Pulitzer Prize winning composer and artist Raven Chacon with us.
The compositional prompt reads as follows:
For this month’s project, we are going to experiment in alternative means of music notation. This can include, but is not limited to: graphic, text, video, interactive, or sculptural notation of a work of performed music or sound.
For those unfamiliar, alternative means of music notation have been a key feature of avant garde composition since the early 20th century, ranging from Dadaist sound poetry to Xenakisian matrices to communal Deep Listening prompts accessible to performers of all levels of expertise. Since many alternative notation styles can be interpreted in a number of different ways, you should choose a style that best fits the sounds you seek to hear. I.e. if you seek something specific, notate it explicitly through text, symbolism, etc.
You are to work in pairs with a fellow GCFC participant and compose a score through alternative notation specifically for your partner to perform, while they do the same for you. Each pair of participants should then record their performances ahead of time and submit both their scores and recordings for group critique.
